Karachi or a Modern Mohenjo-Daro?
When it rains, it pours. For the people of Karachi, however, the most enjoyable monsoon season every year also brings an all-encompassing catastrophe, adding misery to the citizenry already suffering from a litany of civic failures with no sign of stopping. This time again, it merely took a two-hour drizzle in the city to expose the years-long stellar performance of the Karachi City Government, along with the Sindh Government, which seems to have fully encroached the city with the least political mandate it has. Still, in the name of good governance, the state machinery is busy mishandling the affairs with all its incompetence and clumsiness, that too with no fear of accountability or obligation to the people. The total collapse of the city’s infrastructure does not make headlines, nor does the ruthless killing of the people every day under the wheels of dumper trucks. A city with no future, Karachi is fast turning into a civic graveyard, which could be best compared to Mohenjo-Daro than to any other cosmopolitan city. ![]()
Where Death is Delightful
The world is going through interesting times, characterized as the most egalitarian period of human history. However, at the same time, Israel’s unabated atrocities continue in Gaza, and so does the deafening silence of the global community. Despite an imposed famine, sadistic massacre, and never-ending oppression of the world’s most helpless community, the United Nations is as useless as it is powerless to command any notable change in Gaza, which has already turned into a graveyard of living people just waiting for their turn. In such a grim scenario, those Palestinians whom the Israeli forces have already killed are considered a lucky lot. In marked contrast, those who are still alive in Gaza are the most unlucky ones. Who says death is not a good thing? ![]()
Come on, India!
India’s sports ministry has officially confirmed the suspension of bilateral sporting ties between Pakistan and India, even at neutral venues. Prior to this announcement, the Indian’s boycott was only confined to cricket. Still, India is ready to engage with Pakistan at multilateral sports tournaments, including those of cricket. In place of oscillating between ‘Yes’ and ‘No,’ one wonders when India will have the courage to say a complete ‘No’ and will unequivocally refuse to play with Pakistan at whatever cost and with no strings attached. Come on, India! Show some backbone. ![]()
