Unjust and Unwarranted
This is regarding the cover story that appeared in SouthAsia in its February 2025 edition. The recent restrictions imposed by the United States on Pakistan’s missile programme are both unjust and counterproductive. Pakistan has the sovereign right to defend itself, especially given the persistent threat of military aggression from India and its covert involvement in promoting terrorism within Pakistan’s borders. These restrictions undermine Pakistan’s ability to maintain strategic deterrence, which is crucial for regional stability. Pakistan’s missile capabilities are not a provocation but a necessary safeguard in an environment where India continues to modernize its military and engage in destabilizing activities. The international community, especially the U.S., should recognize Pakistan›s legitimate security concerns and refrain from actions that limit its defense capabilities. Instead of imposing restrictions, it is vital to support dialogue and mutual cooperation in addressing security concerns, ultimately fostering peace and stability in the region.

Return of International Cricket
The recent return of international cricket to Pakistan is excellent news for the country and the global cricketing community. After years of uncertainty due to security concerns, Pakistan can now fully host international matches. This milestone will have far-reaching effects on the popularity and reach of the sport, particularly in the South Asian region. This development is monumental because cricket holds immense significance in South Asia, and Pakistan›s re-entry as a host nation will help elevate the sport’s profile. Fans in Pakistan, who have been deprived of live international cricket for far too long, will now have the opportunity to witness the sport at the highest level. This will undoubtedly reignite passion and enthusiasm among the country›s cricketing community, inspiring future generations to embrace the sport passionately.
Furthermore, the return of international cricket will have a ripple effect on neighboring countries such as India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It will foster regional cooperation and strengthen cricketing ties, encouraging more international events and tournaments. The resurgence of international cricket in Pakistan is a win for the nation and the world of cricket. It’s a testament to how sports can bridge gaps and pave the way for greater regional unity and sportsmanship.

Wicked Indian Diplomacy
I am writing to draw attention to the growing concerns regarding India›s concerted efforts to use nefarious means to defame Pakistan in the international arena. Over recent years, India has been engaged in a systematic campaign to tarnish Pakistan’s image, portraying it unfairly as a source of instability and terrorism. This negative portrayal is not only misleading but also aimed at isolating Pakistan diplomatically and economically. By leveraging its influence in global forums, India has sought to suppress Pakistan›s voice, casting false accusations that have resulted in diplomatic tensions. Moreover, India has been accused of manipulating international organizations to advance its narrative, even attempting to suppress the truth about the situation in Kashmir. Despite these constant challenges, Pakistan has remained committed to peace and regional stability. The nation continues to fight for justice and human rights for its people, and its active participation in global peacekeeping efforts speaks volumes of its true intentions. The international community must remain vigilant and not fall prey to misinformation. Pakistan’s role as a responsible and peace-loving nation deserves recognition, and India’s attempts to malign its image should not be allowed to go unchecked. In these trying times, world leaders must foster understanding and promote dialogue rather than enable biased agendas to fuel division.

New Coalition Government
Nepal’s new coalition government has made significant strides in its early months, and it is encouraging to witness the positive changes it brings to the country. Under the coalition government›s leadership, the government has worked towards stabilizing the political environment, focusing on key reforms in governance, infrastructure development, and poverty alleviation. The government’s approach to addressing economic challenges, such as unemployment and inflation, has been commendable. In addition to economic initiatives, the government’s efforts to enhance social welfare, including education and healthcare, show great promise for the well-being of the citizens. With a broad coalition, Nepal now has the opportunity to prioritize long-term development goals, and maintaining this government for the next four years will ensure that the momentum of progress continues. It is essential that the coalition government remain stable and united to tackle the country›s complex challenges. Consistency in leadership will strengthen Nepal›s domestic policies and solidify its role in the international arena. I urge all stakeholders to support this coalition and work together for Nepal›s prosperous future.

Bhutan and Affordable Tourism
I recently came across an article claiming that Bhutan is an expensive country to visit, and I felt compelled to clarify this misconception. While it’s true that Bhutan requires a minimum daily package for tourists, this policy actually ensures that visitors experience the country in a sustainable and authentic manner. The daily fee covers a guide, accommodation, meals, and transportation, all of which contribute to a rich cultural experience without the hassle of additional expenses. Bhutan›s unique policy prioritizes high-value, low-impact tourism, making it a more rewarding trip than many other destinations. Beyond the cost, visitors are treated to breathtaking landscapes, ancient monasteries, and a deep cultural heritage that is well worth the investment. In reality, Bhutan offers great value for money when considering its whole experience, making it accessible to a wide range of travelers.
