SPELT 37th International Conference 2021

The Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers, commonly known by its short acronym SPELT, is going to organize 37th SPELT Conference from November 6 to 7, 2021. The 37th SPELT Conference will be held online in the Virtual format. SPELT is widely known for its dedication and continuous effort towards teacher training, research and educational development. This time SPELT brings the 37th Edition of its uninterrupted journey of empowering teachers that began in 1984 and continues to respond to changing times and demands, including faring along through the tough times of the Coronavirus pandemic. Being held under the theme of “Teaching English Effectively: Innovations in Policy, Practice and Research,” the 37th SPELT Conference promises to be another rich learning experience for the people.

This year’s keynote speaker Dr. Deborah Healey is Former President of TESOL International Association USA. Her focus has been primarily on technology in education, as well as adult ESL and EFL. She will speak on the topic “Telling Our Stories’’. She has presented extensively internationally (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America). The group of plenary speakers include luminaries and scholars such as Dr. Francisco Perlas Dumanig, Hawaii, Dr. Obaid ul Hamid, University of Queensland, Dr. Sarah Hillman, USA, Dr. Sarah Hopkyns, Zayed University, UAE, Dr. Syed Abdul Manan, Kazakhstan, Kamila Dolejsi, UK, Sharon McCulloch, UK, Dr. Naeema Hann, UK. They cover a wide range of rich and relevant repertoire of content that will be covered during the two-day event. Topics include, “Context-Specific teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic: Toward cultural and linguistic inclusion”, “Beyond methods: Reflections On Localizing ELT in Pakistan”, “Digital Literacy in ESL Education”, “Innovation Through Action Research”, “Effective Online Assessment” and others.

Two panel discussions on the topics ranging from Regional Teacher Associations’ response to current, educational and ELT issues to opportunities and challenges during the pandemic are also featured in the conference.
