Men of the Match!
In marked contrast to November of 2022, today’s Pakistan has evolved as an international peace headquarters, thanks to the rise and rise of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir

Currently, the situation is as follows. The old-school critics of the current hybrid regime in Pakistan still seem more concerned with the textbook functioning of governance on purely democratic grounds and less worried about its delivery on both domestic and international fronts. However, what often goes unnoticed for them is how a civil-military coalition gradually transforms from a hybrid arrangement into a smoothly functioning, well-coordinated team of dedicated individuals who may not seek the spotlight or boast about their slow yet steady credentials at the top of their lungs. Still, they work together persistently towards a common goal, bringing stability, fostering progress, and driving advancement, even in areas never thought possible for a Third-World nation like ours.
The flag-bearers of a makeshift, hybrid form of governance in place, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who is also the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), have been leading from the front, not only on the domestic scene but, this time, internationally. The duo first grabbed the headlines of global media exactly a year before, when the 4-day war between Pakistan and India, which was summed up as a regional conflict with limited geopolitical ramifications, ended in a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump at New Delhi’s request, since the latter was the ultimate loser, biting the dust at the hands of the Pakistan Army.
Most of all, General Asim Munir truly stood out during that historic event, as he was then the Chief of the Pakistan Army. It was a momentous occasion that eventually earned him the honor of becoming the country’s second-ever Field Marshal. This event marked a significant milestone in his career and in Pakistan’s history.
However, that’s just part of the story. Remember that there is much more to consider and be proud of.
True leadership doesn’t just emerge out of a vacuum, nor is it something that happens by a single moment of magic. A year before, when Pakistan, chiefly because of its military prowess, was officially acknowledged as an unassailable force to be reckoned with in Asia, who would have anticipated that the Sharif-Munir duo would grace the front covers of international magazines and newspapers, but this time in the context of a conflict that is not only global in scope but also potentially capable of precipitating a Third World War with the strong likelihood of nuclear exchange? Yes, this has been happening once again, putting Pakistan at the centre of the world geopolitical scene, thanks to its rise as the most active nation, running to and fro across the world for the sake of international peace at the peak of Iran-U.S. war and successfully bringing such all-time foes as Tehran and Washington to the negotiation table in Islamabad—a diplomatic masterstroke as well as a rare feat of gargantuan proportions neither Geneva nor New York, London, or Brussels has ever achieved.
Since history is always in the making, the rise and rise of Field Marshal Asim Munir and his active role in skillfully strengthening Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts amid a rapidly evolving global landscape are something even the enemy across the border has yet to fathom. At this point in time, the shifting landscape of global politics has brought about a new and challenging era for middle powers, making the prevailing geostrategic conditions particularly intricate for those nations reeling on the wrong side of the tracks. During such uncertain times, it’s heartening to see how the Chief of Defense Forces, Field Marshal Army Chief Asim Munir, has stepped up as a strategic leader amidst the geopolitical upheaval. Despite his formidable military credentials, Munir is the one who is busy engaging in friendly exchanges with many a nation in one go and adopting a rational diplomatic approach towards the unreliably erratic U.S. President Donald Trump, which is proving quite successful.
Inspiring leadership combined with a bold, ambitious vision is essential for a nation that often finds itself on the receiving end, guiding it toward a brighter future. At the very moment when the Iran-U.S.-Israel conflict commenced, it was none but Pakistan alone that uniquely assumed the responsibility as the preeminent global peacebuilding force, surpassing all other nations in this endeavor. Pakistan’s efforts included hosting multiple rounds of diplomatic talks, facilitating ceasefire agreements, and mediating dialogues between conflicting parties. Notably, Islamabad served as neutral ground for negotiations, and the Pakistani government deployed peacekeeping personnel to help stabilize affected regions, demonstrating its commitment to regional stability.
As a master of multi-alignment, Munir’s active engagement with key nations like the U.S., China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran highlights Pakistan’s proactive and capable leadership in navigating complex international relationships
Yet again, Asim Munir is the man of the moment as well as the man of the match, standing out as a highly skilled diplomat with no such background on paper. As Pakistan’s military chief, he’s been widely recognized for his strong connections with U.S. President Donald Trump, reflecting his effective diplomatic efforts. Munir’s active engagement with key nations like the U.S., China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran underscores Pakistan’s proactive, capable leadership in navigating complex international relations.
The credit equally goes to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the most criticized, nay ridiculed, Prime Minister in the recent political history of Pakistan. Nevertheless, his forward-thinking and progressive outlook, laced with persistent efforts to extricate Pakistan from the economic quagmire and international ostracism, has yielded remarkable results for the nation. The country now takes greater pride in its Prime Minister than in previous leaders who, despite their rhetoric, failed to achieve such accomplishments.
When General Syed Asim Munir assumed command of the Pakistan Army on November 29, 2022, Pakistan was confronting numerous challenges and multiple crises with no end in sight. Owing to a host of political tensions, a rapid economic downturn, and a deteriorating law-and-order situation across the country, a pervasive atmosphere of uncertainty had taken hold. The Pakistani currency was experiencing a continuous decline, and inflation remained persistent.
In marked contrast to November of 2022, however, today’s Pakistan has evolved as an international peace headquarters, and the path toward stability is still unfolding. The undeniable fact that a duo that delivers is better than a team comprising many who fail to perform despite having everything at their disposal is more valid than ever in current times. And for this, there’s no need to dig into history books or sift through debates in modern diplomacy, because the miracle has been clearly visible right before our eyes.
