Aag Lagay Basti Mein
Bunty Aur Babli

Aag Lagay Basti Mein, a newly released Pakistani film with a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes, is a crime thriller and dark comedy in which danger and humour are entwined.
The film’s plot is simple. Barkat (Fahad Mustafa) and Almas (Mahira Khan) are betrothed to each other, but both deceive each other about their realities. Barkat says he dwells in Dubai, and settling in Dubai is Almas’s wish come true. However, Almas is a born thief. Though she is not affiliated with any gang, thievery runs in her blood.
As both are thrown into difficult circumstances, the film beautifully captures the love that grows between them as they try to fulfill their desire to move to Dubai.
A heart-wrenching scene occurs when Barkat takes their savings to buy food for Goldie, a child in the basti. Almas throws a tantrum. It is here that the viewer realises how different Almas and Barkat are. Barkat is soft-hearted, kind, and compassionate. Almas, on the other hand, is in pursuit of seeing herself in Dubai.
After trying all the tricks, Almas and Barkat finally make an unsuccessful attempt at robbery. As they try to flee the crime scene, they take refuge in the mansion of Marble Seth, who is the don of the underworld. Both Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan deliver their roles with a powerful spontaneity and finesse.
The costumes and sets complement the theme of the film. The film advances beyond the conventional Heer Ranjha comedy. The scriptwriter does not depict a utopian world of love; rather, love involves its inherent trials and challenges. The film has moments of comic relief. Despite the serious subject matter, the film delivers it in a funny, light-hearted manner.
Although the film is a romantic crime thriller, its approach to the subject is unique. The film offers complete entertainment, with the audience laughing and crying simultaneously. Aag Lagay Basti Mein looks like the Indian film, Bunty Aur Babli. The main theme revolves around dishonesty and theft.
Aag Lagay Basti Mein is a good attempt to create a unique cinematic experience. It takes a different approach to love, entwining it with crime. The soundtrack is melodious but not catchy. The film’s opposite perspective emphasizes the star power of Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan, as the filmmakers employ a strategic approach by showcasing both film and television stars widely recognized by the public. However, revitalizing an industry that has long been inactive necessitates a courageous initiative, not solely through a distinctive storyline but also via its cast, rather than depending on familiar faces.
In a nutshell, the film is engaging and worth appreciating. The characters are charming, and the storyline is interesting from the word go.
The film begins with a somewhat mediocre presentation, initially relying heavily on the star power of its cast to draw viewers in. However, as audiences have become increasingly familiar with Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa, both of whom are considered to possess only average talent, the filmmakers need to look beyond this familiar cast. To achieve true success and stand out in a competitive market, they must explore new talents, innovative storytelling, or fresh casting choices that can elevate the film’s overall appeal and offer something different from the usual star-driven productions.![]()
