‘Queen of Tears,’ a South Korean TV series, is written by Park Ji-eun, and co-directed by Jang Young-woo and Kim Hee-won. An epic saga of love, sacrifice, and second chances, ‘Queen of Tears’ consists of 16 episodes and two special episodes starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, essaying the roles of Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in, respectively. The series aired on tvN, a South Korean television network, and is also available on TVING and Netflix.
The series revolves around the lead character, Baek Hyun-woo, who comes from a middle-class background, lives in a rural area called Yongdu-ri, and becomes a lawyer after graduating from Seoul National University, considered one of the top universities in Seoul, South Korea. Hong Hae-in comes from an upper-class background. She is the granddaughter of the Queens Family, becomes the CEO of the Queens Department Store, and takes control of the company.
Their paths cross at some point in their lives, igniting a spark of true love that leads them to marriage, thus making Baek Hyun Hoo the legal director of Queens Group. The series has a wonderful cast with incredible acting skills. A heavy amount of hard work has been utilized in creating the storyline. As the story progresses, it unveils some major twists and turns that the audience could not have anticipated in the initial episodes.
The series broke records for tvN and garnered a larger audience on Netflix. It got the smash hit status by reaching a nationwide rating of 24.850% for the last episode and became the highest-rated tvN series in viewership and the second-highest number of viewers. The series was a hit on Netflix since it quickly climbed the charts, reaching number one in its fourth week. The show remained popular for 13 weeks, racking up over 373 million hours watched.
The shooting of the series at breathtaking locations, which include South Korea and Germany, and the chemistry between the leads has played a significant role in making the series a huge success. Forbes, an American Magazine, wrote that “many K-dramas end with ‘happily ever after,’ but ‘Queen of Tears’ starts that way,” adding that the series “not only has a solid cast but boasts a talented screenwriter and two directors with a track record of drama success.”
The series’ soundtrack is something out of this world that resonates well with the audience. Since one of the tracks is sung by Kim Soo-hyun himself, called “Way Home,” it took fans’ excitement to a new level. The series’s budget is said to be ₩56 billion, and as of now, the series has earned ₩65 billion in revenue. Individuals into drama and romantic comedy will love this series, which will keep them on the edge of their seats
