Justice for Momina Larik
Rape cases in Pakistan are increasing at a very fast pace. Every day we hear cases emerging from every nook and corner of the country revealing the bitter truth of our society. The mentality of these perpetrators is so absurd that they don't see age or gender, they just see their prey.
Momina Larik
The recent case of Momina Larik has shook everyone. The 7-year-old girl was kidnapped from her hometown Pir Jo Goth in Khairpur district after which she was raped and then murdered. Her body was found in the fields of a banana orchard.
According to police, she was murdered two days after her abduction. The post-mortem report also revealed that she was raped before being strangled to death.
Currently, the police has arrested five culprits and a complaint has been launched against three unidentified persons on suspicion of the victim's father. An investigation is underway.
Social Media
As soon as the news broke, social media made an uproar with #JusticeforMominaLarik trending on top. People are demanding justice for the little soul as this is not the first time that a child has been abused or killed. The parents of the victim are demanding justice.
Where is the Law?
Do we ever wonder how perpetrators dare to commit such a heinous crime? Why they are so casual with what they are doing? The reason is simple. We often hear that men cannot be expected to control their baser impulses in the presence of women. How is this justified? How come a crime such as rape in Pakistan, having a 25-year prison sentence and even the death penalty, is being poorly handled by the authorities? Where is the law? Why can't the government and the relevant authorities see what is happening in the country? Their needs to be some strict action against such perpetrators.
The Numbers
Recently, as per reports, a total of 11 rape cases were reported everyday in Pakistan and out of the total reported cases, only 12% complaints were filed in courts while a decision was given on only 5% of them.
During the last six years, 18,609 cases were reported in Punjab alone, 1873 cases were reported in Sindh, 1183 in KP, 129 in Balochistan and 210 in Islamabad.
Is Pakistan safe?
After witnessing such cases, one can only question, 'Is Pakistan safe anymore?'![]()
