TV serial
Dil Pai Dastak
Riveting Rom-Com
Dil Pai Dastak, produced by Ali Saud and directed by Momina Duraid, is a new TV serial aired on Hum TV. A rom-com from the word go, Dil Pai Dastak features a pretty young cast comprising new yet talented artistes, such as Khaqan Shahnawaz, and Aina Khan. Saad, the lead male protagonist, is a flirt. He is good-looking and charming; thus, he is the perfect catch and ideal man any woman can desire.
As Saad (Khaqan Shahnawaz) comes across Kiran, cupid strikes. Tinged with a pinch of humour, the play takes an interesting turn here. Here Kiran’s brothers make an entry, and to them their ‘ghairat’ is more important than their lives. Sara (Aina Khan) comes to Saad’s rescue. She silences the men with convincing arguments in favour of Kiran.
The serial can be compared to the Indian film Chennai Express, where Shahrukh Khan faces the wrath of Deepika’s brothers as he tries to rescue her from the clutches of her monstrous brothers. On the other side is the story of Dadi and Barray Mian. They are in love, and they drop hints of how they feel toward each other. Their love is hidden behind the facade of anger and a pretence of dislike. One can sense the pull of gravity between Sara and Saad, who seem to be only friends; the play points to how the young souls may end up as lovebirds. Sara’s mother tries to tie the knot, but she refuses blatantly. However, the viewer can sense love striking between Sara and Saad.
The comical appearance of Barrey Mian’s daughter-in-law sends the audience into squeals of laughter. She is the typical housewife, domestic to the core, without a grain of intellect. All she can do is cook and clean. She isn’t productive at all.
The TV serial opens with a note of Saad working out in the gym. He can barely pick up a pair of dumbbells and is embarrassed at his lack of muscular strength. He wants to build his muscles to show them off to young girls. Yasmin is Sara’s mother. She wants to secure her future, but Sara outright rejects the idea of marriage.
Replete with suspense, sarcasm, and witticism, the TV serial Dil Pai Dastak is a treat to watch. Although it touches upon grave societal issues that revolve around marriage and ghairat (honour), it does so in a light-hearted manner. On the whole, the serial can be referred to as a riveting play that helps the audience forget the worries of mundane life and delve into pleasure and happiness for a moment.
