The World Between Us
Of Love and Betrayal
Sara Naveed’s novel ‘The World Between Us,’ is about relationships of love and hate. Naveed’s style of writing is simple and concise. She creates an aura that is compelling and breathtaking.
The protagonists, Amal and Qais, both have a dark past. They fall in love with each other, and the demons of their past create tumultuous waves that are on the brink of ruining the present bond of trust, loyalty, and love they share. Naveed has brilliantly expressed the emotion of romance. How intricate the web of feelings can be for two people falling in love with each other.
Amal is a brilliant girl. Although ordinary-looking and not rich, she has an aura and wit that charms men. The difficulty of wooing her is like a challenge that men like Qais like to accept.
Amal works in an office, and Qais is her boss. Qais is the typical rich, spoilt brat that women like Amal cannot seem to understand. Qais is smitten by her, but she resists him. She does not take the bait Qais gives to her. She is difficult. She is not desperate, which annoys Qais, who cannot understand how Amal does not care about him.
Amal is like a trophy that Qais must win. Initially, Qais wants a fling with Amal, but as things turn around, the infatuation turns into true love! Will Qais and Amal be united, or will their relationship fall apart? What is it in their past that still haunts them?
Are they willing to tell each other the truth about their past, or do they fear the truth will lead to their undoing? Truth should set them free! But is it so?
Sara Naveed sheds light on society’s mindset. As Rohinga, Amal’s colleague, tells her that she had been rejected based on her skin tone, which wasn’t light enough, Naveed exposes the shallow thinking of our society! White is acceptable, but black or wheatish complexion is not!
Qais is the perfect catch.
‘He is rich…drives a brand new car. He owns the latest model of iPhone. He eats expensive food daily. He’s handsome. But is that what Amal cares about? His money and good looks? What does Qais want? ‘What was happening to me? I’d have never thought I would be attracted so powerfully to someone as simple and ordinary as Amal.’
Is this what love feels like? The question is potent. The novel ‘The World Between Us’ by Sara Naveed allows readers to indulge in a world of love, beauty, and romance. The book is worth a read!
