The AI Surge

Artificial Intelligence has broadened the spectrum of technology around the globe. The field itself has brought creativity and opportunities for the masses. It has been anticipated widely that over the next 5 years AI will be taking a lead above all technical fields. Diagonal pragmatic approaches are being developed.

In Pakistan, young people are being seen to deviate their interests from hardware skills to software. Almost every university is offering AI as a four year bachelor’s degree programme. It has been seen that almost 40 t0 50 percent of applicants are inclined towards AI and data sciences as compared to engineering problems. One of the main reasons behind the rise in applications is the medical students. The ratio of medical students has risen in AI to increase chance of admission to medical studies.

The scope of AI has become wider due to its rapid implementation in every area, i.e. academics, medicine and healthcare, entertainment and media, agriculture, legal, etc. The impact of AI will be higher in future due to the high rate of its adoption. It has produced ease for everyone by its predictions and one-touch formulas. AI engineers and scientists are basically converting machine learning algorithms to real-life interfaces.

In Pakistan, AI has become an integral part of the courses offered by almost all renowned public and private universities. Centres have been established in universities for excellence and compliance. The National Center of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Artificial Intelligence Research Lab (ARIL) at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), etc., have been set up according to state-of-the-art requirements. These institutions have worked and showed their positive results towards almost every discipline and encourage young graduates to show their creativity.

AI offers a large range for logical minds. The gamut of AI is quite vast and has created ample opportunities for creative and well-reasoned minds. Engineers, data and computer scientists have shown interest towards AI approaches to arrive at inter-disciplinary solutions. Not only the IT companies but giants like Google and Microsoft are hiring artificial intelligence developers. Due to the prevalence of projects and consultancies in Pakistan, the scope of AI has been greater than in the past. To engage youth of Pakistan, a National Center of Artificial Intelligence has also been established in the country.

AI or data scientists are making a lot of money by doing freelance projects. This has created ease for lots of people to save their time and exertion in traditional office routine. The development of soft skills has created awareness in the young minds in Pakistan that they are keener towards choosing artificial intelligence as a career. After the emerging pervasiveness of the AI bubble, other engineering disciplines are not attracting much interest and this is an issue that demands the attention of career experts.
