Back in Action
She got the worst of it when the Pakistan National Assembly erupted during the Budget session. The Treasury benches were trying to prevent Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif from making a speech. In the ruckus, as the ruling and opposition parliamentarians threw copies of Budget documents at each other, one landed on Maleeka Bukhari’s left eye, hurting her badly. However, being a true PTI stalwart, Ms. Bukhari was back in action a few days later, vehemently defending Prime Minister Imran Khan for linking women’s clothing to causes of rape.
Optimism Will Win
Fawad Chaudhry is one of the most optimistic politicians in Pakistan. He seems to have a lot of confidence in Imran Khan’s leadership and his handling of the country. In fact, Mr. Chaudhry believes that the PTI would be voted again to power following the 2023 elections. If that is not optimism, then what is?
Proud Pakistani
Shahrukh Khan, a flying officer in the Pakistan Air Force, made his country proud when he became the only Pakistani cadet to graduate from the US Air Force Academy in 2021. The US Embassy in Islamabad congratulated Khan on his achievement. “Congratulations to Flying officer Shahrukh Khan on becoming the only Pakistani cadet to graduate from the US Air Force Academy @AirForceGrads in 2021,” wrote the embassy on Twitter.
Her Crime
A few days after the ceasefire between Palestine and Israel in the Gaza strip, Palestinian journalist Givaura Bidauri was covering a demonstration in the Shaikh Jarrah area of East Jerusalem. This part of the city is mostly populated by Palestinian Muslims. Givaura was apprehended by Israeli police and, after much manhandling, was locked up at a nearby police station. Her crime: not identifying herself to the police though they had known her for many years as an Al-Jazeera reporter.
