Change Thyself

One day I was lounging around the drawing room, thinking about what we are and what should we do to make the best of our lives. I thought about this for an hour. This is when I got my answer…. We are humans and God has blessed us with almost everything we need to lead a happy life. During the course of life, we have to choose between the right and the wrong and need to determine the fact that are we doing what we are supposed to do? In today’s world, which is ruled by smart gadgets and technological wonders, we don’t even bother to ask our neighbours about their health. Those people who are married don’t care about their parents since they did so much for us and what are we doing for them. Is it the right thing to leave them alone and isolated, as if they haven’t done anything for us. By the same token, we don’t visit and spend some time with our relatives (e.g. father’s and mother’s side relatives).

Why is it so? Are we just reluctant to develop a bondage and come closer to our elders, our senior citizens? Are we enslaved by the technology at the expense of our family as well as at the cost of sacrificing our friends and loved ones?

That day these questions popped up in my mind, I looked for the answers. That day when my mother, the dear Mom, asked me what I was thinking about. She listened to me, understood my problem and encouraged me to ask her whatever I wanted to. I was so curious. So I told her what I was looking for at that moment. My mother said we, the human being, have been reduced to hollow creatures, who don’t care about anything. Her candid reply just hit the nail on the head. Then I realised if I expect a change from the society, I first have to change myself.
