Wingless Shehbaz!
Rumour is in the air that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is not happy with his latest stint as prime minister. Although the reason behind his alleged unhappiness is unknown, a little bird told us his position has been reduced to a showpiece as the real powers lie elsewhere. Alas! The most experienced chief minister of Pakistan’s largest province now finds his premiership a compromised slot where too many cooks are right there to spoil the broth in his majestical presence. Earlier, the rise of the PDM government had led to an Opposition-free rubber-stamp parliament, but now not only the parliament but the whole government apparatus has, willingly or unwillingly, ratcheted down to a rubber-stamp regime, and this is how the cookies crumble in Pakistan in the guise of democracy.
Phupho on a Mission
Babar Azam is back as a skipper, and so is the game of musical chairs that characterises the Pakistan Cricket Board’s intimate workings. A while ago, for instance, Babar Azam was asked on a TV show what word came to his mind when he heard the name Wahab Riaz. “Phupho,” he replied. Everybody in the subcontinent knows the real connotation of the word ‘Phupho,’ an evil aunty who loves causing a rift between people by adding fuel to the flames. Since Phupho Wahab Riaz is now in the middle of the PCB’s power equation as the senior team manager, let’s wait and see the real game between Phupho and the rest of the team members.
Calling the Kettle Black
The showbiz fraternity is furious these days at TV artiste Adnan Siddiqui, who recently compared women to flies. However, it does show the double standards the showbiz world maintains when it comes to subjectively targeting individuals because of their gender identity. On several occasions in the past, many known female artistes have publicly ridiculed male celebrities, notably leading sports personalities and politicians, out in the open by using disrespectful analogies, but nobody cared. So, why is there so much fuss about Siddiqui’s candid remarks?
