Scream VI
Ghostface with a Shotgun
With Scream VI, the Scream franchise is back and it’s the scariest one yet! Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox are the main actors and they all reprise their roles from the previous film.
It follows a fresh Ghostface assassin who preys on the New York City victims of the ‘Woodsboro legacy attacks.’ Every ‘Scream’ film begins with a phone call that features a lethal sequence.
This is a tasty appetizer that, as the characters in each ‘Scream’ film would tell you, sets the mood for the entire film. The ritual scene in ‘Scream VI’ begins at the bar of a hip restaurant in downtown Manhattan.
This time, the film’s fictional town of Woodsboro, where several instalments of the Scream horror films are based, is replaced with New York, and its new slogan is ‘New York, New Rules.’
Together with the screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are also back.
The directors addressed the criticism that surfaced since the time of the official trailer release due to Ghostface’s rules being different in style this time, when speaking with the media. Bettinelli-Olpin said, ‘We don’t want it to be safe. We don’t want it to be boring. We want it to be fun and to raise eyebrows. ‘When we heard ‘Ghostface in New York and he has a shotgun’ it was like, ‘What?!’ The two feelings of ‘What are we doing?’ and ‘We have to do it!’ are often intrinsically tied and that was a perfect example of that.’
Even though Neve Campbell, who played ‘Sidney Prescott’ in the first five Scream films, isn’t in the film this time.
Fans were devastated by her abrupt exit from the Scream franchise. The actress made a statement that read, ‘Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. ‘I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.’
The producers did their best to fill that gap with more intense action and stabbing sequences and I must say they did an outstanding job.
Scream VI will undoubtedly be as well-liked as the majority of its predecessors, serving as a reminder that if you give the public what they want with lots of bloody stabbings with a dash of satire, they will come. In the end, Scream VI fulfils all of the expectations of the audience.
