Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is an American computer-animated film released in January 2022. It is said to be the final instalment in the Hotel Transylvania franchise. This fourth instalment is the sequel to the 2018 Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released by Amazon Studios, the film renders the voices of Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kathryn Hahn, Jim Gaffigan, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Brian Hull, Fran Drescher, Brad Abrell, Asher Blinkoff, Richard “Ninja” Blevins and Zoe Berri.
The film brings to fore a special weapon “Monsterfication Ray” that can turn a monster into a human and a human into a monster. The gun is accidentally used in a way that it should not be, therefore, switching all those who live in Transylvania. Johnny (Andy Samberg) turns into a monster while Count Dracula (Brian Hull), is turned into a human. Dracula is also Johnny’s father-in-law. They must find a crystal in South America soon or else the spell will become permanent. During this episode, Johnny figures out that despite being his son-in-law, Dracula does not consider Johnny to be part of the family. This emotionally shatters Johnny who further mutates and decides to go away.
The film provides the humans and monsters the rare opportunity to experience life from a different perspective. Dracula, who could not come out in daylight, is able to enjoy life for he never left his home before sunset. Johnny, on the other hand, is happy to lead the life of a monster, and enjoying the thrill and excitement that he could only dream of when he was a human. Brimmed with comic activities and moral lessons, the film is also replete with funny one-liners, witty comments and emotional scenes. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania is an enjoyable watch for both children and adults.
The story is set at a time when Hotel Transylvania is celebrating its 125th anniversary. With emotions at a high, Mavis - Johnny’s wife and Dracula’s daughter - overhears that Dracula will eventually retire and will leave the hotel afterwards. When Johnny finds out, he is too excited and asks Dracula to renovate the hotel. Dracula fears that Johnny may damage the hotel and its age-old structure. He lies to Johnny that only monsters can become the lawful owners of the hotel.
It is Van Helsing who - in good faith - to turn Johnny to a monster uses the “Monsterfication Ray” gun at him. Dracula breaks the crystal when attempting to turn Johnny back to human and himself to a monster. This leads to a mission to South America to find the crystal before it is too late and the change becomes a permanent feature.
