IBA Celebrates Trailblazing Alumni at Excellence Awards 2024

IBA Karachi continues to stand as a beacon of excellence in Pakistan, nurturing leaders and producing alumni who consistently set new benchmarks in their respective fields. To celebrate the remarkable achievements of its graduates, the Institute has announced the recipients of the IBA Alumni Excellence Awards 2024. These prestigious awards honor individuals who exemplify leadership, innovation, service, and a lasting impact on society. The distinguished awardees include:

Tariq Kirmani (Class of 1968) – Chairman, Gas & Oil Pakistan Ltd. and Pakistan Refinery Limited

Tariq Kirmani, an IBA graduate from the class of 1968, has over 50 years of diverse experience in the corporate sector, both domestically and internationally. Currently, he serves as Chairman of Gas & Oil Pakistan Ltd. (GO) and Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL). He is also a director on the boards of the Professional Education Foundation (PEF), Family Educational Services Foundation (FESF), IBA Selection Board, and the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA). His previous leadership roles include Chairmanship of Punjab Energy Holding Company (Pvt.) Ltd. (PEHCL), PIA, United Bank Limited Fund Managers, Greenstar Social Marketing (GSM), Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), IBA Advisory Council, and NAPA. He also served as President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).

Nassir Salim (Class of 1986) – President & CEO, HBL Habib Bank Limited

Nassir Salim assumed the role of President & CEO of HBL in March 2024. With over 36 years of global and domestic banking experience, he has held senior positions at American Express Bank, Citi, and ADIB - Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. Since joining HBL in 2017, he has led multiple strategic initiatives and continues to drive the bank’s transformation.

Farrukh Sabzwari (Class of 1992) – CEO, Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)

Farrukh Sabzwari is known for his visionary leadership and significant contributions to shaping the strategic direction of Pakistan’s capital markets.

Syed Taha (Class of 1998) – Managing Director & CEO, Pakistan State Oil

Syed Taha has played a crucial role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy infrastructure while driving innovation and growth at the country’s largest energy company.

Philanthropic Excellence

Dr. Muhammad Imran, Ph.D. (Class of 1998) – Group Head, Islamic Banking, Bank Alfalah Limited

Dr. Imran has supported numerous community development initiatives. He is widely known for his pioneering work in Islamic finance and his continued commitment to philanthropy.

Athletic Achievement

Tabarak Ur Rehman Chaudhry (Class of 2018) – Ultra-Marathon Runner
Tabarak Ur Rehman Chaudhry is celebrated for his extraordinary athletic feat of running 1,000 miles across Pakistan. His remarkable journey raised over $750,000 for The Citizens Foundation, helping to educate over 5,000 underprivileged children.

Advancing Diversity, Inclusion & Sustainability

Azima Dhanjee (Class of 2020) – Co-founder, ConnectHear

Azima Dhanjee is known for her transformative work with ConnectHear, a social enterprise that fosters communication and inclusion between the deaf and hearing communities.

Entrepreneurial Initiatives
Hamza Abdul Rauf (Class of 2020) – CEO, Telemart

Hamza Abdul Rauf founded Telemart, one of Pakistan’s leading e-commerce platforms. His work in developing the country’s largest Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) and smartphone financing ecosystem has empowered over a million retailers.
