Thank You, IBA !
The IBA has broadened its mission from a business school to a multidisciplinary institution.

In the heart of Karachi, where dreams and determination collide against the backdrop of a city in constant motion, stands an institution that has shaped the destiny of thousands — the Institute of Business Administration (IBA). More than just a business school, the IBA is a symbol of what is possible when vision, discipline, and good management form the basis for long-term plans. For nearly seven decades, it has been the cradle of leadership, innovation, and service, producing men and women who have gone on to serve Pakistan — and the world — with honor, intellect, and great distinction.
Established in 1955, IBA’s origins are as prestigious as its journey. Founded with the technical support of the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania — one of the most renowned business schools in the world — IBA was Pakistan’s bold answer to a young nation’s yearning for professional, merit-based leadership. Later strengthened by the University of Southern California (USC), IBA’s foundations were laid with international rigor and academic foresight. It was, in every sense, ahead of its time.
From its earliest batches, IBA began churning out leaders who would come to dominate Pakistan’s economic, corporate, and governmental landscapes. Its alumni can be found at the helm of national and multinational corporations, steering policy in government institutions, pioneering start-ups, and contributing to academia and civil society. These are not merely graduates but torchbearers of a tradition of excellence, resilience, and uncompromising ethics.
I speak with deep gratitude and immense pride, for I, too, have had the privilege of studying at IBA. My journey through IBA’s rigorous MBA program remains one of the most defining experiences of my life. The long nights of case studies, the thrill of intellectual debates, the real-world business simulations, the friendships formed, and the constant push to deliver excellence were not just academic exercises — they were a way of life. IBA’s ability to get the best out of every student and create leaders is a tribute to the environment it creates, one that challenges you, believes in you, and prepares you to lead.
IBA has always held a reputation for its academic discipline and meritocracy. However, what has been most remarkable in recent years is its ability to evolve and transform itself into a modern, globally competitive institution without losing its core values. A succession of visionary deans and directors and a supporting Board of Governors has enabled IBA to undergo a remarkable revamp that speaks volumes about its commitment to progress.
State-of-the-art infrastructure, digital classrooms, innovation labs, a sprawling, green campus, modern hostels, and an impressive sports complex are now part of the IBA landscape. But beyond the bricks and mortar is a more profound transformation — in pedagogy, mindset, and mission. The curriculum has been redesigned to meet the needs of a globalized economy. Faculty members are increasingly drawn from top international universities, and partnerships with global institutions are enriching the academic experience.
IBA’s leadership deserves special recognition. It has worked with excellence and foresight to reaffirm IBA’s position among the leading academic institutions not just in Pakistan but across South Asia. In a country where academic excellence is too often an afterthought, where shortcuts frequently replace standards, IBA remains a bastion of quality, integrity, and purpose. That, in itself, is a national service.
Pakistan today faces complex challenges — economic volatility, technological disruption, and a demographic explosion that can either become a dividend or a disaster. In such times, the need for responsible, capable, and ethical leadership has never been greater. Institutions like IBA are not merely academic spaces; they are national assets. They are the places where ideas are born, values are shaped, and futures are forged.
It is also heartening to see that IBA has broadened its mission from just a business school to a multidisciplinary institution. With programs now spanning economics, social sciences, computer science, mathematics, liberal arts, accounting, finance, and more, IBA is preparing a new generation of leaders across disciplines. The Center for Executive Education (CEE), the Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ), and the IBA Aman CED (Center for Entrepreneurial Development) are initiatives that are already having a powerful impact on industry and society.
As an alumnus, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride — not just in what IBA was, but in what it is becoming.
IBA’s focus on inclusivity and merit-based admissions ensures that students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, including underprivileged regions of Pakistan, are given a shot at a world-class education. Scholarships, financial aid, and outreach programs have become central to IBA’s ethos, proving that excellence need not come at the cost of equity.
As an alumnus, I feel an overwhelming sense of pride — not just in what IBA was, but in what it is becoming. This institution does not rest on its laurels, but continues to evolve, reach higher, and demand more from itself and from its students. And for that, we owe a debt of gratitude to the entire IBA community — from the leadership at the top to the dedicated faculty in the classrooms, from the diligent staff to the passionate alumni who continue to give back.
The IBA journey should not be just about acquiring a degree. It should be about entering a lifelong fraternity of thinkers, doers, and dreamers. It is about internalizing values that outlive any syllabus—discipline, integrity, excellence, and resilience. It is about learning not just how to make a living, but how to live meaningfully.
In closing, IBA is not just a school. It is an ideal. It is the audacious belief that Pakistan deserves the best — and that we can create it ourselves. It is a sanctuary of hope in a landscape that often seems devoid of it. It is proof that with vision, effort, and integrity, greatness can be within reach.
To those who are privileged to study there, I say: treasure it. To those who are part of its evolution — the leadership, faculty, and management — I say thank you. And to my fellow alumni, I say: let us carry this flame forward, lighting the way for those who will come after us.
I would like to acknowledge, pay tribute to, and fondly recall some of the outstanding IBA faculty whom we had the great honour and privilege to have as our teachers:
