Hasina on the run
As things recently unfolded in Dhaka, it took just a 45-minute notice for the otherwise Bangladesh’s most powerful prime minister, Sheikh Hasina Wajid, to accept her defeat, resign from the Prime Minister office, and flee the country lock, stock and barrel to her favorite yet final destiny, India.
Stepping down from the PM post in the face of mass protests demanding her resignation, the former prime minister, now ‘Hasina on the Run,’ will reportedly leave for Finland after consulting with her all-time Indian backers in New Delhi.
According to news sources, “She and her sister have left Ganabhaban (the PM's official residence) for a safer place. She wanted to record a speech but could not get an opportunity to do that."
Bangladesh's army chief, Waker-Uz-Zaman, addressed the nation following the development.
In his address, the army chief announced that the deaths during the anti-government protest would be investigated.
The army chief added that an interim government would be formed and that talks in this regard were underway.![]()
