Your Excellency, Maryam Nawaz!

The provincial department handling the promotional campaign of Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Chief Minister, never misses an opportunity to make the most of public money to promote the chief minister. This time, the department deserves much appreciation for printing the picture of Maryam Nawaz on relief food bags distributed among the flood victims. Having lost their homes, crops, livestock, and whatever they had, this is what the flood-ravaged people of Pakistan’s largest province, now inundated in water, needed the most: the picture of Mayram Nawaz, Her Excellency!

Telecom Scam

In Pakistan, millions of mobile phone users are reportedly being systematically charged by mobile telecom operators for gaming and many other services they never subscribed to, used, or, in many cases, even heard of. The scam involves charges for mobile phone video games and other offers, deducted from users’ prepaid mobile balances without prior consent or notification. Mostly prepaid customers are being billed daily and weekly under the guise of gaming subscriptions, but they have neither signed up for these services nor clicked any activation links. In reality, most recipients of such messages have never interacted with these platforms, making this a textbook case of unauthorized billing, a form of financial exploitation particularly egregious in the country’s ongoing hyperinflationary crisis, where every rupee counts. The sheer scale and persistence of this exploit, which occurs across various mobile networks, strongly indicate complicity at the telecom operator level. When will the time come for the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take decisive action?

India’s Shame

You must behave like a sportsman, not a vengeful warrior, when you play a sport. However, the 2025 Men’s Asia Cup, which took place in the United Arab Emirates from 9 to 28 September 2025, ended with a sad note: The men in blue have no respect for the game. Having refused to shake hands or show any sportsmanship while playing with Pakistan, Indian cricket players reduced themselves to mere political pawns being controlled by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), which has successfully reduced the ICC to a mere subsidiary of the BCCI. Winning or losing, the Indian cricket players look like a brainwashed, politically misguided lot, and their cricket team is now globally known for tainting the gentleman’s game in the name of blindfold nationalism, akin to jingoism.
