Vicious Cycle
With another ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, this time between Israel and Iran, the world is left in shock and awe in the literal sense. As matters currently stand, the good thing is that the Iran-Israel war has come to a halt, and on top of that, international media is abuzz with a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in the ceasefire. This was a 12-day tripartite war that ended with a declared winner on all sides — Iran, Israel, and the United States. From Tehran to Mashhad, the people of Iran are celebrating the victory on the streets, while the Israeli leadership seems content with having achieved their war objectives against Iran. However, despite a happy ending for all the warring sides, there’s much more to worry about than congratulating each other for flaunting their military muscles and brandishing technological warfare edge.

At the end of the day, more’s the pity, global peace is as fragile as it was before the initiation of the conflict. At the same time, the people of Gaza are the eventual losers since they have been left helpless once again in the face of never-ending starvation, acute hunger, and ultimate death at the hands of Israeli forces. Having been relegated from a two-state solution to being a stateless species on the face of the earth, the Palestinian imbroglio calls for a miracle, which is as elusive as quicksilver, with absolutely no chances for a permanent solution agreeable to the oppressed side. The pin-drop silence echoing from the filthy-rich Arab world is more pronounced than the ceaseless cries of the starving children of Gaza, along with their malnourished mothers, dying of acute hunger day in, day out. To make things worse, the rest of the world, from New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur, seems to be overjoyed at securing their vested interests with a neutral stance over Palestine, as if the latter neither exists in the name of humanity nor is listed on the diplomatic roster of powerful nations.
War or no war, as things crop up, the Palestine crisis is only a lost cause in the global political spectrum, but also a nuisance to the ever-opportunist First World that looks more interested in erecting a real estate empire out of a rubble-strewn wasteland called Gaza than forcing the Israeli leadership to at least stop the carnage being ruthlessly carried out in the name of national interest. The international war machinery is on a break for the moment, but only to resume very soon with another war to be fought against another enemy on another battlefield. Rain or shine, be it the oppressed people of the Indian-occupied Kashmir, the forgotten souls of Gaza, or the war-torn Ukrainians, those who are already bearing the brunt of war for ages with no sign of stopping, would be the ultimate casualty yet again. Alas! The nations championing peace, human rights, freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, revel in waging war for the sake of war. The vicious cycle rolls on!
